Altair Partners, via The Magpie Trust have made the following charitable donations throughout 2015:-

The Donna Annand Melanoma Charity, Jersey

Donna Annand sadly passed away on 18 February 2011 following a long and brave battle against Stage IV malignant melanoma.  Donna’s wish was that this disease be highlighted to allow the early detection and treatment of melanoma to improve people’s chances of survival.  The result of Donna’s wish is the formation of The Donna Annand Melanoma Charity.

Peter Rioda of Sanne Group raising money for Children in Crisis

On Sunday, 26th April 2015 Peter Rioda of Sanne Group ran the Virgin London Marathon and raised over £1,750 for water sanitation projects in Liberian schools.  Liberia is one of the poorest countries in the world and to make things worse, it has been at the centre of the Ebola crisis.  Sanitation generally is a problem in remote villages. Water sanitation projects centered around Liberian schools improves health, encourages school attendance and gives children a chance to an education which is their best chance to raise themselves and their families out of poverty.

Nepal Earthquake Appeal via the Disaster Emergency Committee

On Saturday 25 April a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. It severely shook the lives of at least 8 million people and left many homeless. Nepal’s major cities, including the capital Kathmandu, have been badly damaged and rural areas near the epicentre have been completely cut off by avalanches.

DEC member agencies and their partners are working urgently to provide emergency shelter, food, clean water and blankets. Once immediate, life-saving needs are met they will work with individuals, families and communities to support them to rebuild their lives.

Kiva (a micro lending website)

Kiva is a non-profit organisation providing lending capabilities for various people around the world. Users are able to read detailed information about those who need to borrow money and this application enables the lenders to make an investment.  By helping people achieve various goals including alleviating poverty, providing opportunity for entrepreneurship and many more useful applications, lenders are able to contribute to their communities and the world at large.

World Challenge 2016 Trip - De La Salle College

De La Salle College, Jersey are raising money by way of bag packs, car boot sales and cake sales to go towards their World Challenge group fund, which is used to cover the costs not covered by the boys payment.  World Challenge is the leading provider of life-changing school expeditions with over 27 years’ of organising student trips abroad giving global reach, vision and resources to create bespoke educational programmes to students.  The WC expeditions are designed to develop important life skills, helping students to, hone teamwork and leadership skills, gain confidence and self-esteem, become more globally aware; and enhance employment prospects.

Save the Children

Save the Children charity works in 120 countries saving children’s lives.  They fight for their children’s rights and help them fulfil their potential.  They have helped 15.4 million children through their work in 2013. They run world-class programmes to save children’s lives and challenge world leaders to keep to their promises to give children a brighter future.

Grace Crocker Trust

The Grace Crocker Family Support Foundation was set up in January 2011, in memory of Grace Crocker, who grew her angel wings aged 11 weeks. Grace was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, and had open-heart surgery when she was just 5 days old. Her family lived in Jersey, and so they had to move to Southampton for three months whilst Grace recovered from her surgery, including her brother and sister as well as her mum and dad. She met lots of friends and family when she was allowed back home to Jersey, and in the month that she was home, she touched so many people's lives.

As a result of their own experience, they set up this charity with the support of friends and family, with the aim to help other families from Jersey who need to spend time in the UK whilst their child receives medical treatment in a hospital.

The Oscar Maclean Foundation

The Oscar Maclean Foundation was set up in 2014 to provide additional support to local children suffering from cancer and other chronic illnesses, as well as their families. The Foundation hopes that something positive can result from their journey and ultimate tragic loss. Oscar lived a short but inspiring life, during which he wrote a spy novel, collected numerous sports and various other achievement awards, pursued his passion for all things fun and made some truly special friends. He was a very loving little boy, a wonderful older brother to Hugo and Bertie. His endless strength continues to inspire everyone today.

Stand Up To Cancer

Stand Up To Cancer’s (SU2C) mission is to raise funds to accelerate the pace of ground-breaking translational research that can get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now.

SU2C brings together the best and the brightest researchers and mandates collaboration among the cancer community. By galvanizing the entertainment industry, SU2C has set out to generate awareness, educate the public on cancer prevention and help more people diagnosed with cancer become long-term survivors.
