Altair support gives tee-rrific boost for Guernsey Junior Golf

The Royal Guernsey Golf Club Juniors are delighted to announce a new three-year sponsorship deal with Channel Islands independent director business Altair that will ensure the Club can implement and grow its junior competition programme in 2019 and beyond.

The new sponsorship will enable the Club to deliver a full series of competitions for juniors of all levels throughout the season, with players also being given a new golf kit, including shoe bags, golf balls and tees for the season. The first competition took place on Sunday 14 April and will continue throughout the summer, finishing on Sunday 22 September.

In addition, the sponsorship will also see the launch of a new charitable initiative in conjunction with the Youth Commission for Guernsey and Alderney.  Led by recently appointed Head Professional at the Royal Guernsey Golf Club Phil Sykes and his team, the ‘Altair Charitable Coaching Clinics’ will reach out to young people in the community who haven’t had the opportunity to play golf before but who are interested in trying a new sport.

Alice Hurford, Lady Captain of the Royal Guernsey Golf Club, said: ‘It can sometimes be difficult for young people to access golf if they don’t already know someone who plays. We are determined to give as many young people as possible the chance to have a go and maybe discover our Island golf stars of the future. The support from Altair has given us a great boost and we look forward to introducing the game of golf to a whole new generation.”

Michel Davy, managing director of Altair’s Guernsey office, added: “We are delighted to support the Island’s junior golfing talent. The RGGC’s focus is very much on nurturing local talent whilst at the same time looking to introduce new young people to the sport. Those are aims that we fully support and we very much hope that our sponsorship can help grow the junior programme and inspire more young people to get involved in the sport over the coming season.”
