Congratulations to Hubert Nicolle for his recent success in the IoD’s Certificate in Company Direction, which he passed with distinction in all four papers. Hubert will be undertaking the Diploma in Company Direction in November 2020.

Congratulations also goes to Anna Niemiec on her success in gaining the ICA International Diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance, passing with merit.

Altair has taken a number of Covid-19 related precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our employees as well as to provide continuity in servicing our clients. All of our directors are working from home  in accordance with ongoing directives from the governments of Jersey and Guernsey. Our teams are used to working remotely and have all necessary infrastructure and support to ensure they can continue to be effective. We are also holding regular team calls to ensure we are in a position to respond to events as necessary.

Jersey Hospice Care 5 day cycle challenge

Congratulations to Ian Lambert who completed his epic Jersey Hospice Care 5 day cycle challenge in the Atlas mountains of Morocco. The journey involved daunting steep mountain climbs (over 2,000m some days) in desert-like conditions and awe-inspiring scenery. This was Ian’s personal challenge in memory of our colleague Karryna Lovesey.

Youth Commission for Guernsey & Alderney report Get Active Golf | Sept – Oct 2019

Get Active is a project offered by the Youth Commission for Guernsey & Alderney that aims to break barriers to engagement that young people might face when wanting to try out new sports. This programme provides young people with the opportunity to just ‘get Involved’ for the fun of and enjoyment of the sporting activities offered and with no financial implications that may be associated. Through doing this they can discover sporting talents they might not even know they possessed, learn new skills, meet new people and build positive relationships. All of our Get Active projects are offered at anyone aged between the age of 6 – 17 years of age.

Altair new golf clinic initiative gave young people the opportunity to get professional-level coaching

A group of young people got their first taste of playing golf at the Royal Guernsey Golf Club, thanks to a new initiative sponsored by Altair, in conjunction with the Youth Commission for Guernsey and Alderney.

Designed to reach out to young people in the community who haven’t had the opportunity to play golf before but who are interested in trying a new sport, The ‘Altair Coaching Clinics’ took place over six Saturdays from September and saw seven young people aged between eleven and seventeen take part in an hour-long golf session at the Royal Guernsey Golf Club led by Club Professional James Browning, which formed part of the Youth Commission’s ‘Get Active’ strategy. Through Get Active, the Youth Commission aims to offer young people the chance to get involved in a range of sporting activities. Projects have been successfully delivered already this year offering young people a chance to try boxing, paddle tennis and personal training, with more in the pipeline

2019 Canaccord Genuity Inter-firm relay

The Altair team consisting of Hubert, Jon, Matt, Andrew and Michel took part in the 2019 Canaccord Genuity Inter-firm relay. The relay is a running race, on a Wednesday evening, in July around the streets of St Peter Port with each team member running one mile. The Guernsey team members were delighted that Jon Trigg was able to join them from Altair’s Jersey office and make the team a true Channel Island effort. Against some very impressive competition the Altair team came a respectable 38th (59 total teams) with 26 Minutes 37 Seconds on the clock. The team look forward to taking part in next year’s event.


Altair continues to strengthen Guernsey office with appointment of Andrew Brook

Independent director services business Altair has continued to strengthen its Guernsey office with the appointment of Andrew Brook as a Consultant.

Moving to Guernsey from Bermuda, Andrew is a highly experienced senior executive with 30 years’ experience of financial services, specialising in audit and risk, international banking and alternative investment funds.

For the last five years he has been undertaking a portfolio of non-executive board roles including chairing investment, audit and risk committees. Prior to that, Andrew spent 25 years with PwC, latterly as a Partner with PwC Bermuda where he led the Asset Management and Banking practices.  

He has also worked in PwC London, where he undertook asset management, banking audit and advisory work in the UK, CIS and Malaysia, whilst his previous experience has seen him undertake work across multiple jurisdictions, including Bermuda, Cayman, Mauritius and the US. Andrew is a Fellow of the ICAEW.

Matt Wood joins Altair

MATT WOOD, pictured, has joined Altair's growing team in Guernsey. He will take on a pivotal role in driving forward the independent director services business's growth strategy in the Channel Islands and brings more than 20 years of financial services experience.

Brig-y-Don House

Recently, the staff of Altair on behalf of the Magpie Trust were very busy tidying and planting in the gardens of Brig-y-Don House which had become rather overgrown. Clearing leaves, weeding, planting new bedding plants, general tidying and some serious strimming of the bank at the end of the garden which gives access to the beach took place. Luckily the weather was kind and a big improvement was made.

Brig-y-Don House is owned by the charity now known as Brightly.  The aim of Brightly is to provide support to care experienced children, young people and their families by providing financial assistance not available to them from the Government of Jersey. Principally funds are used to buy goods, services and life-enhancing experiences that will improve the lives of children and young people in care in Jersey. The long-standing charity continues to provide much needed support when young people leave care to live independently in the wider community.

Altair support gives tee-rrific boost for Guernsey Junior Golf

The Royal Guernsey Golf Club Juniors are delighted to announce a new three-year sponsorship deal with Channel Islands independent director business Altair that will ensure the Club can implement and grow its junior competition programme in 2019 and beyond. 

The new sponsorship will enable the Club to deliver a full series of competitions for juniors of all levels throughout the season, with players also being given a new golf kit, including shoe bags, golf balls and tees for the season. The first competition took place on Sunday 14 April and will continue throughout the summer, finishing on Sunday 22 September.

Run for David (Bolton) in aid of the Sunflower Project

David Bolton sadly lost his battle with cancer in November 2017. David had been a good friend and colleague of Michel Davy, Managing Director Altair Guernsey and in his memory, Michel along with the Guernsey Youth Commission, David’s wife Liis and Alun Williams from Guernsey Athletics, helped organise a charitable run in aid of the local Sunflower Project.

Starting at 10am from Cobo, entrants either walked, jogged or ran the 6km event, taking in a round trip of Port Soif and the Portinfer Dunes Nature Reserve, before reaching the finishing line back at Cobo, where there was also plenty of fun for the children with beach with games and races.

Altair Guernsey Limited along with other corporate sponsors and the Altair Partners Limited Magpie Trust, sponsored the event and over £5,000 was raised for the local Sunflower Project.
